Algeciras (Cádiz) (EFE).- The sacristan of a church in Algeciras died this afternoon after being stabbed by an individual, who also injured another man and was subsequently arrested.
Sources close to the case have explained that the deceased is the sacristan of the church of Nuestra Señora de la Palma, the city’s main temple, and that the event took place around 7:30 p.m.
These same sources suggest that an individual of North African origin who carried a machete is the alleged perpetrator of the stabbing and has been arrested in the vicinity of the Plaza Alta, in the heart of the city, where the church of La Palma is located.
In addition, there is another person injured in the San Isidro neighborhood, allegedly attacked by the same individual in another temple, according to sources familiar with the event.
Although the 112 Andalusia Emergency service has received numerous notices from individuals about the event, the toilets have been unable to do anything to save the life of the victim and it has been the Local Police that has confirmed the death.
