Madrid (EFE).- The head of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will travel to Beijing next week to meet with the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, days after he held a meeting with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, to try to promote a peace plan for Ukraine.
Sánchez will travel to Hainan on the 30th to participate in the Boao Economic Forum, and it will be the following day that he will travel to Beijing invited by the Chinese president to meet with him.
Also in the Chinese capital, he will have a meeting with Chinese businessmen with potential investors in Spain.
Government sources have highlighted to Efe the importance of this trip at the moment chosen after the leading role that the Chinese president tries to have in resolving the war in Ukraine.
They point out that Sánchez will be able to analyze with him details of this plan, which in principle has been received with suspicion by both Ukraine and the United States and the European Union.
Pending the evolution of possible negotiations, the President of the Government has defended the peace plan proposed by the Ukrainian President, Volodímir Zelenski, and at the last European summit he asked to work so that this plan was not only supported by the EU but also by the entire international community.
The visit is also framed by the Government in the preparations for the Spanish presidency of the EU that will open on July 1 and that Sánchez has been stressing that it will foreseeably take place without the conflict being resolved.
There have already been contacts in recent years between Sánchez and Xi, the last of which was at the G20 summit held in Bali.
