Madrid, Mar 21 (EFE).- The current rector of the Complutense University, Joaquín Goyache, with 25.27% of the votes, and Professor María Esther del Campo, with 18.15%, have been the most voted in the first round of the elections held this Tuesday with a total of eight candidates, and will contest the second round on March 29, according to the provisional results.
Eight professors, including four women for the first time, competed for the Rectorate of the largest face-to-face university in Spain in voting that, in addition to the record number of candidates, had as a novelty the parity of female professors, since women had never presented themselves before .
The rector Goyache, professor of Animal Health at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and who has held the position since 2019 when he defeated his predecessor Carlos Andradas, will face the professor and current dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology, Esther del Campo, in the second turn.
Of the other candidates, the third most voted was María Castro Morera, professor at the Faculty of Education, with 16.28%. They are followed by Iñaki López, from the Faculty of Economic Sciences, with 11.8%; Jesús Pérez Gil, from the Faculty of Biological Sciences with 10.54%; Matilde Carlón, from the Faculty of Law, with 7.78%. Next, Javier Arias, dean of Medicine with 6.77%, and the professor of Chemistry Josefa Isasi, with 3.35%.
The polls have been open from 9 in the morning to 20 hours, and according to the statutes of the UCM, the votes are weighted in different percentages by sectors: PhD professors with permanent links, 53 percent; the rest of the teaching and research staff, 10 percent; students, 25 percent; Administration and Services personnel, 12 percent.
The total census is 76,359 voters, of whom 64,648 are students, 7,934 teachers (3,156 permanent professors with PhDs; 2,145 other full-time teaching and research staff; 2,633 other part-time teaching and research staff) and 3,777 staff members administration and services.
La Complutense is the largest face-to-face university in Spain and has the widest educational offer. In this academic year 2022-23 offer: 74 Degrees; 24 Double Degrees; 10 international degrees; 168 official master’s degrees; 56 doctorates and 199 permanent training titles.
