Cádiz, (EFE) for the land where both artists were born and raised.
“I feel more privileged than favored”, Alejandro Sanz stated in his speech after receiving this recognition, at the same time that he confessed to being a lover of Cádiz, “of its background and its form”, and having this land “within of me and surrounding me”.
Although he has thanked “from the bottom” of his soul for this new recognition, Sanz has wished that the province normalize his love and “did not have to distinguish myself anymore”.
“I do not need anything. Give recognition to those who are dying to be recognized and who deserve it, I’m only dying for the privilege of feeling that my memories, my dreams, my family were formed here”, said the artist, now immersed in a tour for America.
Pride by all recognized
“Inside me I have a child running through the streets of Alcalá de los Gazules and Algeciras (where his parents are from).
I have a child bathing in the beaches of Cádiz, touring the sales of the province and I have a child who every February explains to his friends on the other side of the Atlantic the meaning of carnival,… making quarry”, he recalled in his speech, which It ended with a “Long live Cádiz and its province, and long live Cádiz and its universe”.
In his speech, Alejandro Sanz wanted to show his pride in the ten people and entities that received the Medal of the Province in it, including the special prosecutor against drug trafficking in Andalusia, Ana Isabel Villagómez. Make a “special mention” to “my friend” Lola Flores, named favorite daughter of Cádiz on the centenary of her birth, 29 years after her death, posthumously.
For him it is “a fantasy” to share this recognition with a woman whom, he has said, he has no words to define because “all the words fit her like hats, perfect.”
The artists’ “museum route”
Rosario Flores, who has collected the recognition for her mother, has assured that she would be “proud” of this distinction: “she would be dancing bulerías, and very happy. My mother is alive and kicking, she has been gone for 29 years and look at all the trail of love and art that she has still left”.
Rosario Flores recalled that in less than two weeks the museum of “La Faraona” will be inaugurated in her hometown, Jerez de la Frontera.
A museum to which will later be added the one that Alcalá de los Gazules plans to do about Alejandro Sanz. “We are going to do the museum route” of “the great artists that this land has produced”, commented Alejandro Sanz, referring to the museums of Rocío Jurado in Chipiona, Camarón de la Isla in San Fernando, and the future of Paco of Lucía, in Algeciras.
The Cádiz Provincial Council awards its distinctions on the Day of the Province, which it celebrates on March 19 in commemoration of the leading role of the people of Cádiz in the promulgation in 1812 of the first liberal constitution in Europe.
The group of Sevillanas “Ecos del Rocío”, which this year celebrates its farewell tour; the Bodega Católica Agrícola de Chipiona, the first cooperative in Spain; the pianist José Luis Nieto; and the company “Queso Payoyo de Villaluenga del Rosario” also received the Medals of the Province. EFE
