Valencia (EFE) against the workers.
As reported by the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community, between last Wednesday and today, Friday, the judge received a total of 20 detainees in a police operation against tobacco smuggling.
The magistrate has agreed provisional detention, communicated and without bail for three of them (who have appeared this Friday) among which is the lieutenant of the Oliva Civil Guard post.
Alleged crimes of smuggling and money laundering send the head of the Civil Guard of Oliva to prison
The case is initially open, and without prejudice to further classification, for crimes of smuggling, belonging to a criminal organization, against industrial property, money laundering, against the Public Treasury and against the rights of workers.
The police operation was carried out jointly by agents of the Valencia Command and the Central Operating Unit (UCO).
Investigators suspect that the detained lieutenant was part of a criminal organization dedicated to the illegal production of tobacco that operated from a polygon in this Valencian coastal town.
In the operation, about 800,000 packs and about 12 tons of tobacco leaves were seized, with a value close to five million euros.
The head of the Oliva Civil Guard post and one of his subordinates had also been reported to the Valencia Command for harassing a colleague from the post.
Due to these events, the Valencia Civil Guard Command had activated the workplace harassment protocol in response to a complaint from the agent, who claims to have been a victim of personal and professional harassment for years and to be undergoing psychological treatment due to these events.
