Torrelavega (EFE).- Dozens of women of all ages, and the occasional man, have come this Saturday to the eight tattoo studios open in Torrelavega, to mark a commitment to feminism on their skin by tattooing one of the symbols of small format proposed by the Department of Equality.
This is an action that takes place under the slogan “If you are a person who has equality on your skin, go ahead and get a free feminist tattoo”, which will be repeated next Saturday, March 18, and which asks the tattooed Upload a photograph to social networks along with the hastags #tatuajesporlaigualdad and #8M39300.
The mini-tattoos are carried out without prior appointment and in strict order of arrival at the centers adhering to the initiative, which are Flash Body Fashion, Luarte Tattoo, Ringo Ink, Salomon Tattoo, El Cuervo Tattoo, Tricio Ink, Ivanink Tattoo and Ana Tattoo, with the idea that each of them make a maximum of 60 ink marks.
Those interested can choose one of the eight simple symbols proposed by the Department of Equality, with a minimum size of two centimeters and a maximum of five, as well as another four proposed by each of the studies that collaborate in the initiative.
To get a tattoo, you must be over 18 years of age, present your ID before accessing the studio and sign a consent form, and only one tattoo per person will be made.
More classic or more artistic?
The tattoos proposed by the Department are more classic and range from texts such as “Metoo” or “Girl power” to brands associated with women such as the feminist symbol, while those proposed by the studios are more artistic such as a crown of flowers, some eyebrows or a bust, based on the figure of Frida Kahlo.
The Councilor for Equality, Patricia Portilla, in statements to EFE after undergoing the tattoo process, assures that the objective of launching this action is to “seek a reflection on the part of the citizenry” on the fight for women’s rights, “and that people join a ‘permanent’ commitment to equality.”
She chose the female symbol, one of the designs proposed by her department, for her first tattoo, which was done in Leticia Salomón’s studio, for whom the initiative is “a great idea” and to which she did not hesitate “for a minute to join ” when they proposed it from the Department.
And the response to the call did not wait because dozens of people were waiting at the door of the tattoo studios from the very first hour, such as Nuria Gómez, who has come from Santander with her mother, daughter and aunt to get tattooed. on the calf of his left leg half a Cantabrian stela and a flower.
In her opinion, the initiative of the Department “is magnificent” because, like Patricia Portilla, she considers that it means having a commitment to feminism and equality inscribed on her skin.
Involve young people
Patricia Portilla assures that when she announced this initiative on the occasion of 8M to the Women’s Council, which includes associations, political parties and unions, the response was “tremendously positive”, even from those groups where older women participate.
In addition, he highlights that the initiative is related to the concept that “equality must be internalized”, which is why he sought to involve the city’s tattoo studios and also involve young people, the same as in previous years, in which Pills against machismo or equalizers were given away on the occasion of 8M.
For this reason, it announces that, seeing the success it has had, for next year it is already considering consolidating this tattoo initiative and even extending the duration of the campaign for more days.
