Vitoria (EFE).- Institutions, parties and unions have honored this Friday with successive floral offerings to the five workers who were shot dead by the Police in Vitoria on March 3, 1976 and have avoided the controversy over the Foundation that will manage the space in his memory.
The monolith in Zaramaga (Vitoria) that remembers the victims has seen a succession of politicians pass by throughout the morning who have made their respective floral offerings.
The Vitoria City Council has also unanimously approved in an extraordinary plenary session its participation in the Foundation that will manage the future Memorial Space, which will be located in the church where the events occurred.
The Basque Government, the Provincial Council and the City Council have already given their approval to the Foundation. The Bishopric of Vitoria remains to approve its incorporation.
Bishopric sources have explained to EFE that the reason is that the Basque Government has not yet sent them the draft of the statutes. In the monolith, the Basque Councilor for Equality, Justice and Social Policies of the Basque Government, Nerea Melgosa, has commented that they do not expect problems for the Bishopric to join.
The Government wants to enter the Memorial
There are more problems due to the central government’s request to form part of the board of trustees that the Foundation will manage, which it officially did on February 23.
Counselor Melgosa, who will be the president of this board of trustees, has limited herself to highlighting the importance of having implemented the constitution of the board of trustees and of continuing to “take steps”.
However, in a statement, the Department has explained that it has responded to the official request of the central government that “any substantial modification of the Statutes -and the hypothetical incorporation of a new employer would be- would have returned the file to the box of exit and forced to a new complete processing of the process of constitution of the Foundation”.
In this regard, he recalled that this process has lasted two years and added that “from the constitution of the Foundation, it will be its Board of Trustees to lead the process and determine the steps to be taken for the creation of the future Memorial”.
Denis Itxaso avoids controversy
The Government delegate in Euskadi, Denis Itxaso, has asked that on a day of homage like today to the victims of Vitoria on March 3, 1976, no controversy should be entered into, for which reason he avoided commenting on this position of the Basque Government.
In a response to the full control of the Basque Parliament, the counselor has denied that there has been “any exclusion” of the Spanish Government, or of “anyone”, in this process that she has said has been “long, complex and arduous”.
Floral offerings have taken place throughout the morning at the monolith in memory of the five workers killed by police shots when dissolving a workers’ assembly.
Thus, the vice-hendakari, Idoia Mendia, the deputy general of Álava, Ramiro González, the mayor of Vitoria, Gorka Urtaran, and the general secretaries of the Basque socialists, Eneko Andueza, and of the Basque PP, Laura Garrido, have paid their respects.
Demonstration for the victims of March 3
From the unions, the general secretaries of UGT-Euskadi, Raúl Arza, CCOO of Euskadi, Loli García, and LAB, Garbiñe Aranburu.
Other local politicians who have approached have been the president of the PNV of Álava, José Antonio Suso; the candidate for mayor of the Álava capital, Beatriz Artolazabal; the general secretary of the Alava PSE and candidate, Cristina González; the candidate for Mayor of Vitoria for EH Bildu, Rocío Vitero; the councilor of Equo in Vitoria, Óscar Fernández; the coordinator of Ezker Anitza-IU in Álava, José Damián García-Moreno and the general secretary of the PCE-EPK, Jon Hernández, among others.
This afternoon at six o’clock the usual demonstration in memory of the victims will start from the monolith to the Plaza de los Fueros.
This year, as a novelty, at the end the artist MICE (Miren Narbaiza) will perform the song “Sugeak gara”.
