Oviedo (EFE).- Officials of the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency and agents of the Civil Guard have arrested in Siero, in a joint operation, a person accused of introducing 1.5 kilos of ketamine impregnated in textile material and have a home laboratory to extract the narcotic substance.
The operation began on February 8, when officials from the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency in the Basque Country and agents of the Civil Guard, integrated into the Risk Analysis Unit of the Regional Customs and II.EE Unit . of the Basque Country, they detected a postal shipment likely to hide a substance that could be narcotic.
After carrying out the corresponding checks, it was determined that the package contained 1.5 kilos of ketamine, and that the drug was impregnated in a textile material, the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard reported this Thursday in a joint statement.
The package was destined for another point in the national geography and the sender intended to send it by post.
Subsequent efforts made it possible to find out that the shipment had been made from Bangladesh and that it was destined for the municipality of El Berrón, in Siero.
After coordinating the investigation with the Customs Surveillance Service and the Civil Guard of that demarcation, it was possible to identify the person who should receive the shipment.
Arrest on February 14
With the mandatory judicial authorization, the agents arrested the recipient of the drug on February 14.
In the search of the detainee’s home, the agents found a laboratory to extract the drug from the textile material in which it was impregnated.
Specifically, they found both tools for carrying out the process and 75 already treated towels, which, according to the researchers, “denotes the exercise of an illegal activity of relevance and continued over time.”
With this action, one of the routes of entry of this type of drug in both Asturias and Galicia, places of drug distribution, is considered dismantled. EFE
