Ruiloba (EFE).- The Campurrian farmer José María Serna, who holds a Guinness record for being the person who can milk a cow the fastest, has equaled this Sunday the capacity of a milking machine, extracting 25 liters of milk in less than 20 minutes.
The Ruiloba Milk Fair has hosted this curious competition this Sunday in which Serna has participated, who already managed to milk thirty-five liters of milk in just half an hour in a television program in 2009.
“As long as no one tries to refute it, I am the Guinness world record holder for milking by hand,” says Serna, speaking to EFE with “sore” hands after facing the machine.
During this duel, Máquina and José María have milked two cows that are capable of producing up to fifty liters a day, a process that, the farmer points out, is hardly done by hand anymore.
Despite this, Serna confesses that he has “practiced” milking “a couple of cows” this week, and although the beef, from the Cudaña ranch, “has not behaved very well” and “has moved a lot,” He has achieved “a technical tie”, extracting both 25 liters.
This farmer from Nestares (Campoo de Enmedio), who was capable of “filling a cauldron with milk” at just seven years old, confesses that his life “is the cows.” “I do this because I like it, and when they ask me to come here, I really want to do it,” he says.
And before it got cold, the children who have come to see the exhibition have used the 50 liters of milk that have been extracted to feed a group of calves, some just a few days old.

In addition to this exhibition, the Milk Fair has hosted Llinde Ariel Jordan, the European champion Cantabrian cow and who has received a visit from the President of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla.
A workshop for making quesadas has also been held and the largest fresh cheese in Cantabria has been made, for which 500 liters of milk have been used.
The fair, which has completed its sixth edition this year, has hosted a cheese market and visitors have been able to buy dairy products from all over Cantabria, while the folkloric note has been given by the interpretation of the “Dance of the Spears” by Ruiloba .
