València (EFE).- The general secretary of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, assured this Saturday that “what is happening with the law of only yes is yes is a perfect summary of this legislature” and added that “We did not expect the PSOE to be afraid.”
“It is an initiative of Podemos, headed by Irene Montero, which includes the mandate of hundreds of thousands of women who said in the streets ‘I do believe you’ and ‘it is not abuse, it is rape’ and which transforms that mandate into the greatest conquest of feminism in the last decade,” she added.
Belarra made these statements in Valencia, at a meeting held at the Teatre Micalet under the slogan “The force that transforms”, together with the Podemos candidate for the Presidency of the Generalitat, Héctor Illueca, and the Podemos candidate for Mayor of Valencia, Pilar Lima, among other leaders of the formation.
“A minority of judges apply the law incorrectly”
«What happened next is that there is a majority of judges in Spain who have applied the law correctly and a minority who do it incorrectly. If we look back, what happened in 2004 with the Law on Gender Violence was more serious, because there were hundreds of cases dismissed or ignored by the judges, and that law was not modified”, Belarra pointed out.
In his opinion, it is “to have a face of reinforced concrete to show Feijóo now as a champion of feminism, when he opens the door of governments to Vox, a formation that denies gender violence.”
In this context, Belarra has admitted that it was not expected that “the PSOE would also get scared and propose to return to the Penal Code of the herd”, by “showing the wounds so that something is judged as sexual assault and insisting that we close well the legs”.
«Enough of saying that those who do not have injuries are second-rate victims. If you were terrified, you are not a second-rate victim and your aggressor is worth no less,” stressed the general secretary of Podemos.
On the future of the government coalition, Belarra has reiterated that “he has the same iron bad health as always”, despite, he has insisted, the “fear of the PSOE, as happened with the cap on gas, the minimum wage, the family law, the gag law, the housing law that has not just been approved… and that is why we are going to continue pushing, because Podemos is the only force that transforms”.
