The dismissal of Sánchez is established in Royal Decree 694/2023, signed by the King, which has been published two days after the general elections were held on July 23.
The Royal Decree, which refers to articles 62 and 101 of the Constitution, specifies that Sánchez “will continue in office until the new Prime Minister takes office.”
A second decree, 695/2023, specifies the dismissal of the three vice presidents of the Government, as well as the rest of the ministers, who will also continue in office until the new Government takes office.
It is the first meeting of the Council of Ministers after the elections and the last one before the summer hiatus; Sánchez will predictably meet his acting cabinet again in the second half of August.
The entry of the Government into office, according to the law, limits some of its decisions, including not being able to approve the general State budget or present other bills to Congress or the Senate.
