Buenos Aires (EFE).- Consumer prices in Argentina experienced a year-on-year rise of 114.2% last May, 5.4 percentage points more than last April, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) reported on Wednesday. .
In the fifth month of the year, consumer prices grew 7.8% compared to last April, evidencing a slight slowdown compared to the rate of 8.4% of the previous month.
How was the behavior of prices?
Goods last month had a positive variation of 7.4% compared to April, while services rose 8.6%, data that amount to 115% and 111.4%, respectively, in the year-on-year comparison. .
Among the increases registered in May, those of housing, water and electricity costs (11.9%) stand out, driven by the increases in tariffs in electricity and natural gas services through the network.
They were followed by increases in restaurants and hotels (9.3%) and in health services (9%).
But the division with the highest incidence was food and non-alcoholic beverages, with an increase of 5.8% in relation to April and 117.8% in interannual terms.
In the first five months of the year, inflation accumulated a rise of 42.2%.
Consumer prices accumulated a rise of 94.8% last year, with a notable acceleration compared to the 50.9% verified in 2021.
The most recent private forecasts collected monthly by the Central Bank suggest that inflation will be 148.9% this year and 105.7% in 2024.
