Madrid (EFE).- Radio Televisión Española (RTVE) has expressed its “total disagreement” with what it considers a “unilateral decision” by the social network Twitter to include the label “media financed by the Government” in RTVE’s corporate accounts , RTVE News, RTVE Communication and Participation and RTVE Play.
“These labels on the RTVE accounts on Twitter are wrong and contrary to the essence of Radiotelevisión Española,” said the public corporation in a statement in which it reiterated editorial independence as one of its hallmarks.
After this labeling appears on their Twitter accounts, RTVE points out in the statement that it is a public medium that is financed through a general budget allocation approved by Parliament, as well as – it says – “by two other sources of financing of a private nature”.
The public entity has asked Twitter to withdraw the label ‘Media financed by the Government’ and suggests that, in any case, it be replaced by ‘Media financed publicly’.
RTVE hopes that the request will be addressed as soon as possible and recalls that “editorial independence” and that of the workers is protected by Law 17/2006, of June 5, on state-owned radio and television.
