Valladolid (EFE).- Prices moderated their rise to 3.4 percent in March in Castilla y León in the annual rate, after spending three months growing at 6.5 percent, and stood one tenth above the national figure for 3.3 percent, although what is paid for food and non-alcoholic beverages has continued to grow and was 17.3 percent more than a year ago in the Community.
The annual rate of the CPI decreased in March compared to February in all the autonomous communities and Castilla y León recorded the third largest decrease, with those 3.1 points less than the data for the previous month, only behind the decrease of 3.5 in Castilla-La Mancha and 3.2 in Aragon, according to data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 16.1%, 17.1% and 17.3% in the last three months
Despite this cut in the CPI in Castilla y León, the cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages continues to rise, which if in January it recorded an annual rate of 16.1 percent, in February it rose 17.1 and now in March a 17.3.
To a large extent, this rebound in food prices has to do with the monthly behavior of prices in the Community, which rose 1.1 percent compared to February -the same figure as the national one-, after the nine-tenths of rebound of the previous month, when in January it had dropped half a point.
The food section grew 17.2% in 12 months: 22.5 for cereals and 20.9 for pork
Only the food section has grown by 17.2 percent compared to a year ago in the Community, and non-alcoholic beverages by 16.5.
As for the rest of the firms, the INE data collected by EFE indicate that the prices of cereals and derivatives are 22.5 percent more expensive than a year ago and that of bread is 15 percent.
The price of meat has risen 15.5 percent for beef, 10.7 for sheep, 20.9 for pork and 16 percent for poultry.
Compared to the previous month, only sheep meat fell, -2.3, with increases of 4.7 in pork and 1.1 in beef.
Zamora, the province of Castilla y León and the second in Spain in which food prices rose the most with 20%
By provinces, the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose up to 20 percent in Zamora, compared to the same month in 2022, the largest regional increase and the second largest in the national group, only behind Badajoz’s 20.9.
As for the rest of the provinces, food rose 17.9 in Valladolid, with 17.6 in León and 17.5 in Salamanca, and 17.4 in Soria, all above the regional average of 17.3 .
In Burgos, food and non-alcoholic beverages are 15.7 percent more expensive than a year ago, 16.1 in Palencia, 16.4 in Ávila and 16.8 in Segovia.
The CPI: between 4.4 in Zamora and 2.7 in Burgos
Regarding the CPI data for March, it was between the 4.4 rise in Zamora, among the highest in Spain, and the 2.7 in Burgos.
Prices rose 3.2 in Soria year-on-year, with 3.3 in Valladolid, Segovia and Salamanca, 3.4 in Ávila and 3.6 in León and Palencia.
The price group for housing, water, electricity: -16.9%
By groups, the prices of Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels are 16.9 percent below what they were a year ago and 2.2 less than in February.
That was the only negative group, since the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco in the Community rose by 8 percent compared to March 2022, and half a point compared to the previous month; clothing and footwear increased by 4.1 year-on-year and 2.8 monthly, and household items are 6.8 percent more expensive than twelve months ago and four tenths more than in February.
