Algeciras (Cádiz), (EFE) status of one hundred of the 152 defendants present.
In the third session of the trial, the parties have reached an agreement for sentences of conformity of five other defendants, so that there are already 69 who have accepted it.
On the other hand, the Prosecutor’s Office has withdrawn the accusation of another five of the defendants, so there are already 26 those exempted in this case since the process began on Monday.
In this way, the situation of those 95 defendants is resolved, to which must be added the five who are in default of proceedings, who have not appeared at trial. There is a sixth defendant in absentia who, despite having reached an agreement on his sentence, did not appear in person, for which an arrest warrant and admission to prison has been issued.
The largest trial against drug trafficking in the history of Spain
On this third day of the process, the defense lawyers have begun to present their previous issues, including the lawyer representing the main defendant, Antonio Tejón, who has insisted that the maximum period of detention has been exceeded, in his moment, as preventive detention of his client, who for “more than 60 months” has gone through eight prisons awaiting this trial.
In the largest trial against drug trafficking in the history of Spain, the process began with 152 defendants, a number so high that it led the Junta de Andalucía to invest 150,000 euros to remodel the Seventh Section of the Provincial Court and set up four rooms for the same.
The Anti-Drug Prosecutor claims for Antonio Tejón, considered the leader of the organization, 15 years and 9 months in prison and a fine of 104 million euros for crimes against public health, receipt and smuggling (for the use of prohibited drug boats) and belonging to criminal group.
He considers that even when he was in prison, he managed to weave a network with an “incessant” activity to introduce caches of hashish on the Andalusian coast from Morocco, capable of operating even during the confinement due to the covid pandemic. EFE
