Madrid (EFE).- Industrial production returned to negative territory in February with a decrease of 0.8% in the interannual rate, 2.2 points less than in January when it advanced 1.4% after chaining two months of falls in that annual comparison.
According to data published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in data corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, the Industrial Production Index (IPI) fell 0.4% compared to the same month of the previous year, a decrease which was 0.2% in January.
By sectors, and in indices corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, capital goods and energy registered positive annual rates, 5.7% and 0.7% respectively, while intermediate and durable consumer goods recorded decreases of 5 .8% and 1.4%.
The monthly variation of the index between February and January, eliminating seasonal and calendar effects, was 0.6%, 1.4 points more than that registered in January.
Industrial production by sectors
By sectors, and in this monthly comparison, energy and capital goods presented positive rates with an increase of 3.2% and 1.1%, respectively.
On the contrary, durable consumer goods, non-durable consumer goods and intermediate goods registered negative monthly rates.
By autonomous communities, the annual rate of industrial production increased in the original series in seven autonomous communities and decreased in the other 10.
The largest increases occurred in the Canary Islands, an increase of 9%; Madrid, 6.4%, and Extremadura, 6.3%.
And the greatest decreases, in Murcia (13.3%), Cantabria (4.9%) and Comunidad Valenciana (4.9%).
