Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The Circo del Sol company has announced this Thursday its intention to maintain a stable relationship with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which allows it to perform its shows there every two years, starting this summer, when he will program “OVO”, his call to defend sustainability and biodiversity.
The president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; the mayor of Las Palmas, Augusto Hidalgo; and the executive director of Mundo Senti2, Lorenzo Pérez, who collaborates with Circo del Sol, have presented at a press conference the new project with which they want to expand the cultural offer of the island, for its residents and tourists, as well as the nine functions that will be offered by “OVO”, from August 12 to 20, in two daily sessions.
The Cabildo and the City Council have closed a pre-agreement with Mundo Senti2 for the performance this summer at the Gran Canaria Arena, although the economic amount that both institutions will have to contribute for this show in which 100 people participate, of which of which 52 are artists, in order to ensure their continuity in the city, Pérez pointed out.
In any case, both Morales and Hidalgo have emphasized the importance of this project being linked to the island, as well as what “OVO” represents due to the fact that it is inspired by nature and disseminates, through acrobatics, humor and music, “the ecosystem full of life that is the world of insects,” added Morales.
For Pérez, who is from La Palma, “Gran Canaria is the best place in the Canary Islands to receive Circo del Sol, for space, for communications and for its internationalization” and to bring to the islands “this prestigious event with international projection and world-renowned reflects the interest that this destination arouses as a tourist attraction”.
The Circo del Sol, which is the third time it has performed in Gran Canaria, has always had a positive response from the island public and tourists, so it is hoped that this time it will reach the 65,000 spectators that are expected to attend the pavilion.
According to Hidalgo, the forecast is that a third of the public will be residents and the rest will come from other islands and abroad.
The mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has indicated that only large cities can offer stable performances of the Circus of the Sun.
The producer Lorenzo Pérez has highlighted that it is something that Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga and Pamplona have already achieved and that this is due to the fact that they have adequate facilities, similar to the Gran Canaria Arena, which constitute, in his opinion, an “authentic economic and cultural engine.
They are fixed spaces that allow “great influx of public, fidelity and content guarantee”, according to the director of Mundo Senti2, who has also pointed out that Spain is the “most important market in terms of ticket sales volume” for Circo del Sol.
Specifically, for this “OVO” tour, a stage and a new acrobatic structure have been built, and for the performances that will be offered at the Gran Canaria Arena, new acts have been added with a small adaptation to the original plot of the play, the 25th production created on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the company, of Canadian origin.
Since its inauguration in Montereal in 2009, more than seven million people from 155 cities in 26 countries have been able to enjoy “OVO”, whose staff includes 17 nationalities. EFE
