Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG) has joined this Thursday the government pact signed between the Canary Islands Coalition and the Popular Party which, after the support signed on Wednesday with the Agrupación Herreña Independiente, will have 38 deputies , which represents the absolute majority of the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
The agreement has been signed by the leaders of CC, Fernando Clavijo; PP, Manuel Dominguez; and ASG, Casimiro Curbelo, who has stated that the important thing is to govern “effectively” and not hold councils, given the possibility that his party does not lead a specific department but several areas of responsibility.
Curbelo has remarked that it is not the same to have a majority of 35 deputies, which were the ones that the CC, PP and the AHI had, than 38 parliamentarians, which add up to the three seats that ASG obtained in the May 28 elections.
After signing the agreement, the general secretary of CC, Fernando Clavijo, has declared that it is a pact of equal islands that, he has insisted, have to advance at the same speed, with the same rights and services for citizens.
Fernando Clavijo, who with the agreement will be the next president of the Canary Islands, has stressed that in the last legislature ASG and PP “saved at the last minute” the development fund of the Canary Islands, whose philosophy is to provide the same opportunities and rights to all citizens.
The president of the Canarian PP, Manuel Domínguez, has indicated that the objective is to improve the lives of citizens, and has added that the canaries have said at the polls that they want an agreement, which has been reached “quickly, but not therefore less conscientious”.
The president of the Agrupación Socialista Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, has underlined the importance that this agreement has for the governability and stability of the islands, something that his party contributes, and has added that citizens “must necessarily understand” that his party has a fundamental role in this regard.
Casimiro Curbelo has commented that in the document signed his party has seen fit to refer to the advances that occurred during the last legislature, “which was complicated”, as well as that the response that the Government gave at that time has been fruitful in recent times .
He has also referred to the recent signing of the La Gomera Strategy 36, signed by the Gomera Cabildo with the regional and national governments, which will set La Gomera as an example of economic, social and environmental sustainability on the island.
Casimiro Curbelo has stated that ASG also wants specific actions in taxation, connectivity, security and with respect for singularities, an aspect in which he has alluded to the “balanced and extraordinary” electoral system of the Canary Islands for which he has asked for respect because “it seems” that It is bad when the person who does not receive the electoral support to which he aspires does not like it.
In relation to participation in the regional government, he has said that some believe that the most important thing is the councils, but in his opinion it is to respond effectively, promptly.
Aware of this reality, his party has made requests limited to the insular sphere in matters such as health, education and ports, and in the regional sphere in areas such as Visocan, Hecansa and Gesplan, and Casimiro Curbelo has spoken of the need for policies linked to certain productive sectors, such as the primary sector, and on this point it has pointed out that the General Directorate of Fisheries is “reasonable”.
These areas, and others such as those related to planning and the demographic challenge and the Canarian Government delegation in Madrid, in the words of Casimiro Curbelo, have a very clear overlap with all the government areas.
Casimiro Curbelo has reiterated that the participation of Agrupación Socialista Gomera is coherent in defending the interests of the islands for governability and stability. EFE
