Toledo (EFE) Imperial city.
The old San Lázaro gym once again welcomes dozens of florists from all over Spain who did not want to miss the opportunity to demonstrate their floral art and take part in the visual spectacle that accompanies the Monstrance this Thursday, June 8 at the Corpus Christi of Toledo, declared of International Tourist Interest.
The work of design, creation and assembly of the floral elements is carried out by some 70 florists coordinated and invited by the Association of Florists of the province of Toledo.
Its president, Irene Martín-Maestro, highlighted in an interview with Agencia EFE that this year “there is no room for one more element” and that they have “curled the loop” so that looking anywhere in the streets through which the procession takes place, They look full of flowers.
“I don’t know if it will be possible to overcome how Toledo is decked out this year,” said Martín-Maestro, who gave Alfileritos street as an example, which has 200 plants and more than 10 floral elements.
Designs that adorn and do not disturb the Custody
The designs that the florists have been preparing since last Sunday, in days of almost 20 uninterrupted hours, have been carefully chosen so that they fit well in the streets, that they do not get in the way and, above all, “that they do not disturb the entrance of the Custody”, explained Martín-Maestro.
What it is about, he added, is “putting flower that lasts in the most appropriate format”, something that he believes they have achieved this year and everything, he has remarked, with fresh and “alive” flower and without anything artificial.
Among the innovations in floral decorations, he has pointed out that the difference with respect to previous years is the format of the arrangement for a flower that, despite the heat, cannot decay.
Also new are some pots that are very attractively colored straw hats that will delight Toledo and visitors who walk through the streets of the processional route.
A job that started in January
A work of which the fruits can now be seen but which began in January with the elaboration of the project and the designs of the floral ornamentation.
Not only the thirty florists that make up the Toledo association and family members who accompany them are involved in its preparation, but also master craftsmen from almost all the provinces of Spain.
In this sense, Martín-Maestro has stressed that the Corpus Christi is a “claim” for professionals in this sector, who want to go to Toledo “yes or yes” after years in which a “need” to participate has been created. at the big party in the capital of Castilla-La Mancha.
It is an event, therefore, “special for everyone” because, according to Martín-Maestro, it has no precedent and “there is no city in Spain with this level of floral art” and with a greater tradition of Corpus Christi.
