Madrid (EFE).- The collected poetry of Carmen Martín Gaite and Úrsula K. Lequin are two of the ten works that independent bookstores have recommended as outstanding readings for this month of June.
Every month the bookstores vote for their favorite books and comics to compose a list of ten titles where fiction, non-fiction, children’s, youth and comics are grouped together and the choice is made from among all the books proposed by the booksellers themselves.
The following ten titles are those highlighted by booksellers for this month of June:
“In search of my elegy”
.- “In search of my elegy”, by Úrsula K. Leguin (Nordic).- Although she is internationally known and for her fiction, Ursula K. Le Guin began writing poetry in 1959 and never stopped doing so. The fruit of more than half a century of writing, her selected poems speak of war and creativity, motherhood and the natural world.
“In streaks”
.- “In gusts”. Poetry Reunited by Carmen Martín Gaite (La Bella Varsovia) .- Poetry occupies a central place in the work of Carmen Martín Gaite and shares themes and atmospheres with her narrative. This edition by José Teruel also incorporates a selection of her “collages”.
“I gave you eyes and you looked into the darkness”
.- “Et vaig donar ulls i vas mirar les tenebres”, by Irene Solá Saez (Anagrama).- The booksellers have chosen this novel in Catalan that they consider overflowing, full of stories and characters cursed beyond time.
“We do not hang anyone”
.- “We do not hang anyone”, by Unai Elorriaga (Galaxia Gutenberg).- A novel that won the National Critics Award in Basque and in which, with a look full of tenderness and humor, revolves around the old age, awareness of the end of life, decay and disease, through the journey of its elderly protagonists.
“You don’t look like anyone”
.- “You don’t look like anyone” by Charles Baudelaire and Gustave Flauvert (Alpha Decay).- Gathered for the first time in an independent volume, the fourteen letters that have been preserved from the correspondence between the two “fathers” of literary modernity -the first with regard to the novel and the second to poetry-, dated between the years 1857 and 1862.
“Full-speed”
.- “Full speed”, by Josephine Mark (Astiberri).- The work won the Max und Moritz award for best children’s comic at the Erlangen 2022 festival. Its almost 200 pages will lead the youngest readers to experience a chase with much suspense and the most mature to reflect on solidarity and friendship, say the booksellers.
“Lake of the Chancos”
.- “The Lake of the Pigs”, by James Marshall and Maurice Sendak (Kalandraka).- This children’s album tells the story of a hungry wolf who wanders through an unknown neighborhood and discovers a curious show at the theater performed by the Ballet del Covent Guarren.
“Under the door of whispers”
.- “Under the door of whispers” (Crossbooks), by TJ Klune.- Moving and hilarious youth novel that tells a story about how to squeeze life.
“Wolverine. Weapon X”
.-“Wolverine. Weapon X”, by Barry Windsor-Smith (Panini Spain).- Edition restored from the original pages of this saga in which a mysterious conclave turns the mutant Logan into a murder weapon.
“The name of the rose”
.-“The name of the rose. The graphic novel. Volume 1” (Lumen).- The undisputed master of comics Milo Manara signs this graphic adaptation of the historical “thriller” by Umberto Eco.
