Sao Paulo (EFE).- The Brazilian singer Astrud Gilberto, one of the voices that internationalized the “bossa nova”, died this Tuesday at the age of 83, according to her family.
Sofia Gilberto, the artist’s granddaughter, reported her death on Instagram, without offering details about the cause of her death or the place of death.
“Astrud was the real girl who brought Ipanema bossa nova to the world. She was the pioneer and the best. At the age of 22, she gave voice to the English version of ‘Garota de Ipanema’ and gained international fame”, recalled Sofia, about her grandmother, who was the wife of João Gilberto, another music figure.
