Vitoria, June 4 (EFE).- The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has announced that the “Ziberzaintza” will be launched “shortly” to combat “digital threats”.
It is necessary, he added, to block the way to the “interference” of a global world that tries to condition the development of coexistence, signs of identity, values and organizations and institutions.
Urkullu has presided over the annual ceremony of awarding decorations for police work and paying homage to Ertzaintza agents who died on duty.
This act is held annually in Arkaute on the first Sunday of June to pay homage to the agents who died when they “did their duty”.
Medals have also been awarded to the winners for their outstanding police performances and the work carried out in favor of the Basque Police in 2022.
The Ertzaintza is the containment dam against threats
Urkullu has expressed his “concern” about the new threats that adopt new forms of expression and “extortion”.
He has highlighted the importance of guaranteeing cybersecurity through the Ertzaintza, which is the “damping dam” against these “interferences” and threats that use “lies and manipulation”.
“You have to block them because there is a lot at stake,” he stressed.

The Ertzaintza cannot lose the respect of society
He has said that the Ertzaintza must guarantee the trust that citizens place in this police force with “commitment, professionalism and respect.”
“We must never forget this mission”, the Lehendakari remarked, while pointing out that the Ertzaintza must have citizen protection as an “absolute priority”.
“No institution, not even the Ertzaintza, can afford to lose the respect of society to which we owe ourselves,” he stressed.
These words of the lehendakari occur in a context of protests by agents framed in the non-union movement “Ertzainas en lucha”.
They ask for a salary increase of 1,100 euros and that they have announced that they will block the Tour de France device if a new labor agreement is not negotiated.
Urkullu also had words of recognition for all the agents who died in the line of duty, among others those killed by the “cruelty” of ETA terrorism and for the ertzainas who have been distinguished for their actions.
“You are an example of professionalism, commitment and respect”, he stated. EFE
