Las Palmas De Gran Canaria (EFE).- Salvamento Marítimo has rescued this Saturday a third boat with 52 migrants of sub-Saharan origin on board, including five women, some 74 kilometers from Arrecife (Lanzarote), bringing the total to 138 (99 men, 25 women and 14 minors) the number of people rescued in the waters of the archipelago in the last 24 hours.
As reported to EFE by sources from the state society, the rescue center in Las Palmas received a notice from the Civil Guard about this last vessel around nine in the morning, for which they decided to mobilize the salvamar Al Nair, who sighted the pneumatics around 11:40, local Canary time. They are expected to arrive at the port of Arrecife around 2:00 p.m.
This Saturday also proceeded to the rescue of another boat with 50 sub-Saharan migrants on board, including 20 women and nine children, about 110 kilometers south of Tenerife.
This vessel was searched for uninterruptedly since last night, when the controllers mobilized the Calliope guardrail and alerted the vessels in the area without it being able to be located throughout the night.
Around 9:15 this morning, their position was obtained by telephone and they were sighted around 11:15 by the guardamar, which minutes later began the approach maneuver and proceeded to rescue the 50 people.
It is scheduled to head towards the port of Aguineguín, where it will arrive at approximately 2:25 p.m., local Canary Islands time.
Likewise, the first rescue occurred on Friday night, when the Macondo salvamar rescued 36 migrants of North African origin, including five children, who were some 18 kilometers from the south of Gran Canaria. EFE
