Buenos Aires (EFE).- The Colombian soccer player Sebastián Villa, player of the Argentine Boca Juniors, was sentenced this Friday to two years in prison ineffective in a trial for sexist violence against his partner in April 2020.
Judge Claudia Dávalos sentenced Villa for threats and serious injuries “in the context of gender violence” against Daniela Cortés.
The sentence for Villa contemplates a sentence of two years and one month in prison with conditional execution (not effective) and following a series of rules of conduct during that period, which include refraining from any contact with Cortés and his family and from using narcotics and abuse alcoholic beverages.
The 27-year-old player must also undergo psychosocial treatment and participate in workshops “in order to address his problems.”
The context of the case
The Colombian soccer player, who has played for the Argentine Boca Juniors since 2018, was part of an oral trial since last April 17 in the Correctional Court 2, in the Buenos Aires town of Lomas de Zamora.
The player, who was facing the possibility of a sentence of up to 6 years in prison, had pleaded not guilty during this process that concluded this Friday.
Cortés, who decided not to be present electronically at the reading of the verdict, denounced Villa for assaulting him on April 27, 2020 in the house they then shared in the Saint Thomas private neighborhood, in the Buenos Aires town of Canning.
That same night, Cortés published the images of his injuries on his social networks and the next morning he filed a criminal complaint.
The future of Sebastián Villa, in the air
Villa also had another complaint from a different woman in May 2022 for a second episode of gender violence, which supposedly happened in June 2021, for sexual abuse with carnal access, aggravated by injuries.
Now it remains to wait for the reaction of Boca Juniors, whose vice president, Juan Román Riquelme, said days ago that it was “a very sensitive issue” and that, when the verdict was known, the club would take “the measures it has to take, accordingly”. .
With the ‘xeneize’ squad, Villa -who left Colombian Deportes Tolima- won two Argentine Super Cups, one Super League, two League Cups, one Cup and the 2022 First Division Championship.
