In the European Union (EU) as a whole, the unemployment indicator did not change compared to March and remained at 6%.
Compared to April 2022, unemployment registered a drop of two tenths in the countries that share the euro, from 6.7% to 6.5%, while in the Twenty-seven as a whole the drop was one tenth, from 6 .1% to 6%.
Spain once again registered the highest unemployment rate in the EU in April, despite the fact that it fell by one tenth compared to March, to 12.7%, and two compared to the figure for April 2022, when it stood at 12 .9%.
Eurozone inflation falls to 6.1% in May and core inflation also falls
Year-on-year inflation in the euro area fell by nine tenths in May compared to the previous month, to 6.1%, according to preliminary data published this Thursday by the community statistics office, Eurostat.
In the same way, core inflation (which excludes energy and unprocessed food from the calculation because they are more volatile) also slowed down its growth last month, from 7.3% in April to 6.9% in May.
This decrease is mainly explained by the behavior of energy products, whose price registered a fall of 1.7% in May, and also by the lower increase in the price of food, alcohol and tobacco, which went from growing a 13.5% in April to 12.5% in May.
