Bulboaca (Moldova), June 1 (EFE).- The President of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski, affirmed today in Bulboaca (Moldova) that the war will end only when the Ukrainians win or when Russia leaves the occupied territories.
“Until our victory. When we win this war will end. Or Russia can stop it first. They can leave our territory”, Zelenski responded to the question of when the war will end before participating in this city, along with some fifty leaders, in the second summit of the European Political Community (CPE).
“That I think is the answer,” Zelensky told the media after meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu at Mimi Castle, where the second CPE summit is taking place today.
The Ukrainian president also affirmed that Ukraine “is ready to be a member of NATO” and is waiting for the Atlantic Alliance to accept the country and offer security guarantees.
“Security guarantees are not only very important for Ukraine, but also for our neighbors, because of Russian aggression in Ukraine and potential (Russian) aggression in other parts of Europe,” Zelensky stressed.
Support for Moldova
The Ukrainian head of state thus responded to the statements made the day before by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who defended in Oslo that Ukraine be provided with guarantees for its security once the war has ended, so that “history will not repeat itself.”
Zelensky was the first leader to arrive at the summit venue, his second major international meeting in a few weeks, after having participated in the meeting of the Group of Seven Most Developed Countries (G7) in Hiroshima (Japan).
As explained by the Ukrainian president, it was not easy to travel to Moldova, but he wanted to convey the message of all Ukrainians that “we really support” the neighboring country and its people, since both nations have historical ties and always “we walk shoulder to shoulder shoulder.
Specifically, the Ukrainian head of state wanted to thank the Moldovans for hosting so many Ukrainian refugees from the first day of the war that Russia started on February 24, 2022.
“We will never forget it,” he emphasized. Next to him, Sandu thanked Zelensky for coming to Moldova to participate in the summit: “It is extremely important for us. We reaffirm our support for Ukraine, which keeps Moldova safe today and we are grateful for that.”
Bilateral meetings
The Russian invasion of Ukraine will undoubtedly be one of the main topics of this meeting, in which Moldova also hopes to gather support for its claim to join the EU.
Upon his arrival at Mimi Castle, Sandu has revealed that in the bilateral meetings he will discuss Moldova’s accession to the EU.
“As we have already said, our commitment is to achieve Moldova’s entry into the Union at the end of this decade. I will urge the leadership of the EU, the presidents and prime ministers of the Union to support this plan of Moldova, ”he stressed.
On June 22 of last year, Moldova together with Ukraine received the status of candidate countries to enter the EU, the first step in their accession to the community club.
However, this process can be reversible if the two countries do not comply with the reforms that the European Commission has demanded of them in terms of judicial independence, the fight against corruption and organized crime or when applying the law that limits the power of the oligarchs. .
