In the recent regional and municipal elections on May 28, more than 984,000 citizens opted for this option to cast their vote, 6.4% more than in the previous 2019 elections.
It is to be expected that this percentage will increase even more before the next call for general elections, as it is the first to be held in the summer.
Deadline for voting by mail in the general elections: until July 13
July 13 will be the last day that you can request a vote by mail within Spain.
The way to do it can be online or in person and with the national identity document and must be sent by certified mail no later than July 19.
Vote by mail from Spain
The application form can be downloaded on the website of the Ministry of the Interior and submitted electronically on the Post Office page or in person at an office.
A few days later, the interested party will receive an envelope at home with the ballot papers for each political party, the certificate of registration in the census, and another envelope with the address of the polling station where they should vote.
Once the ballot has been chosen and inserted in the corresponding envelope, it will be closed to put it in the other envelope addressed to the Electoral Table, where it will also include the certificate of registration in the census.
Once the vote has been sent, the voter can no longer vote in person.
For Spaniards residing abroad, the Electoral Census Office automatically sends all the documentation and for the first time the ballots can also be downloaded electronically.
If voting by certified mail, the foreign resident must insert the corresponding ballot into the voting envelope and include it in the other envelope addressed to the Provincial Electoral Board, in which they will also put one of the certificates of registration in the census, a photocopy of the passport or ID or a certification of nationality, among other documentation.
If you wish to vote in person, you can also cast your vote in the ballot boxes arranged in your embassies, consulates or authorized centers until July 20.
