The acting president of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, has stated that holding a second regional election is “an option” while the PP candidate for the Presidency of the Junta, María Guardiola, has asked the socialist leader to take a step “to the side” because the polls have called for “change”.
Fernandez Vara
The acting president, Guillermo Fernández Vara, has stated that holding a second regional election is “an option” and has advocated meeting the deadlines set by the institutions to “not include our process” in the general election campaign.
In statements to the media in Mérida, he has reported that he has already contacted all the parties that have obtained parliamentary representation to inform them that before June 12 -according to the deadlines set in the Autonomy Statute- he will convene the constitutive session of the Assembly.
In the next few days he will talk with them again to set a date “that is good for all of us” and that must be established in the following fifteen days -as established by the House Regulations-, the socialist leader has indicated, who has shown supporter of “doing it as soon as possible” taking into account that the general elections campaign opens on July 7.
However, he has clarified that it is not a question of accelerating the deadlines, but simply of complying with those that are marked in the institutions.
Maria Guardiola
The candidate of the PP, Maria Guardiola, has asked Fernández Vara “out of respect” for Extremadura and himself to step “to the side” because the polls have called for “change.” Likewise, he has asserted that the PP will not support his investiture after having left the region “thrown in the ditch.”
“I am going to present myself for the investiture, not to be unsuccessful, but to be voted for,” added Guardiola, who has insisted that he wants to govern “alone” and has announced that in the coming days he will start talks with everyone political groups
In addition, he has remarked that he wants to govern alone in reference to a possible agreement with Vox. In this sense, she has specified that the Vox candidate, Ángel Pelayo, has not yet called her and has criticized the fact that Santiago Abascal’s formation does not have “not a single measure for Extremadura” in its program.
The red lines marked by Guardiola are the fight against sexist violence, support for LGTBI groups and acceptance of immigrants. “That is not in question nor will it ever be in a government chaired by me,” he said.
