Manzanares (Ciudad Real) (EFE) García-Page, before the Minister of Territorial Policy and government spokesperson Isabel Rodríguez, and other authorities of the autonomous community.
The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has valued the professional career in national and international journalism of Cañas, a native of Cuenca.
On the occasion of the recognition, during the celebration of the institutional act of Castilla-La Mancha Day, which was held at the Gran Teatro de Manzanares (Ciudad Real), the journalist recalled that she left Cuenca “very young, very girl” : “All this has moved me a lot, I have loved remembering fantastic moments from my childhood, my family, my roots.”
In addition, the president of the EFE Agency has affirmed that for her it is “an honor” to receive an award “that I did not expect at all, because I have been away for a long time”, although she added: “I have always felt that I belong here, I have always boasted of be from Cuenca”.
Likewise, he has said that there are things that he likes a lot about Castilla-La Mancha: “I think that we, in Castilla-La Mancha, are very inclusive and that is why we have always done well, despite being a land that may not be as rich as others, precisely for this reason, because we include people, we include others and we are very generous about it”.
Free and rigorous journalism
Cañas has acknowledged to the EFE Agency that in this act he would have liked to talk more about journalism, but he is aware that there were many other winners “and there was no way.” However, he has recognized that if he feels that he deserves this recognition in anything, “it is for presiding over a communication company, a journalistic company, and for exercising free journalism.”
Gabriela Cañas has been president of the EFE Agency since May 2020 and has spent most of her career at “El País”, where she has been head of the Madrid and Society sections, a correspondent in Paris and Brussels, and an editorial writer.
She has also been deputy director of the UAM-El País School of Journalism and between 2006 and 2008 she was general director of International Information of the Presidency of the Government.
