Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The acting mayor of Telde (Gran Canaria), Carmen Hernández, from Nueva Canarias, will renounce the act of councilor that she obtained in the elections on Sunday to facilitate a progressive pact in the city that “ serve as a containment dam to stop populism”.
At a press conference, Hernández stressed that, as a democrat, he respects the results and understands that the public wanted to send a message to the government team and, particularly, to Nueva Canarias.
With her departure from the Consistory, the acting mayoress intends to pave the way for the PSOE, Nueva Canarias, Coalición Canaria and Más por Telde to close a government agreement.
“There is an obvious threat that the right and the extreme right will govern Telde, with that possible pact between Ciuca and Vox. As I know that other times my presence has been used as an excuse for not agreeing to a progress pact, I believe that with my resignation I am doing a good service to the city of Telde”, he pointed out.
Last Sunday, the winner of the elections in Telde was Ciudadanos por el Cambio (Ciuca), which won seven councilors out of 27 (four more).
They were followed by the PSOE with five (one less); Nueva Canarias, four (four less); PP, four (two more); Canarian Coalition, three (one less); Vox, two (it opens); and More by Telde, two (same). EFE
