The publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE) of the decree calling for general elections and the suspension of the Cortes Generales that end the XIV Legislature sets in motion a legal calendar that will culminate with a new investiture session in the Congress.
Before that, the constitutive session of the XV Legislature of the Cortes Generales will be held on August 17 at 10:00 a.m. in parallel to elect the presidencies and form the Bureaus of Congress and the Senate. Subsequently, the formation of the parliamentary groups, the Permanent Deputation and the commissions will be negotiated.
Yesterday, according to the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG), the deadlines and procedures that must be met by both the parties and coalitions that want to go to the polls on July 23, as well as the public administrations that must guarantee the proper development and cleanliness of process.
These are some of the main milestones on the electoral calendar for July 23.
Mayo
From day 30: Vote by mail can be requested both for residents in Spain and for voters residing abroad or temporarily absent voters.
The application period is open until July 13, which must be made in person and with the national identity document to request the vote by mail within Spain, which must be sent by certified mail no later than July 19.
Day 31: The Provincial and Zone Electoral Boards are constituted and the period for the parties to designate representatives opens until June 9.
Day 31: Deadline opens for the formation of coalitions.
June
Day 9: Deadline for the presentation of coalitions.
Days from 14 to 19: Presentation of candidacies
Day 21: Announcement of the candidacies
Day 26: Proclamation of candidacies by the Provincial Electoral Boards (JEP).
Day 27: Publication of official candidacies in the BOE.

Before day 7: Instruction of the Provincial Electoral Boards for the distribution of free electoral spaces.
Day 7: Beginning of the electoral campaign at zero hours.
Day 13: The deadline for requesting a vote by mail within Spain ends.

Days 8 and 9: Schedule of meetings to analyze appeals presented by representatives and proxies of the candidacies referring to incidents included in the minutes of the polling stations or in the minutes of the scrutiny session.
The next day, without any claims or after the resolution of appeals, the Provincial Board proclaims the elected.
40 days after the proclamation of the elected deputies and senators, the JEC publishes the general results and by constituencies in the BOE, without prejudice to contentious-electoral appeals against their proclamation.
