Manzanares (Ciudad Real) (EFE) other aspects, to reform the electoral law approved in the 2011-2015 Legislature – under the Presidency of the PP – which has been defined as a “democratic stopper”.
García-Page launched this commitment during his speech at the Region Day event, which was held in Manzanares (Ciudad Real) and in which the 40th anniversary of the approval of the Autonomy Statute was commemorated.
Precisely, he has called for the consensus of the political groups to reform this text -which has not changed substantially in the last four decades- to modify the electoral law.
The lessons of the elections
In his opinion, the regional elections held this Sunday, May 28, have left “lessons”, such as that “it is evident that the electoral system of Castilla-La Mancha is a deficit system, literally badly thought or badly thought.”
In fact, he has alluded to the fact that it is “quite incredible” that despite the fact that the PSOE has increased in votes and in percentage of votes compared to the 2019 elections, it has been possible to prevent “the government of the great majority”.
In addition, he has advocated taking advantage of the reform of the statute to introduce other modifications and “other actions” after the experiences lived in “the recent crisis” of the covid-19.
He will present a government program for eight years
Likewise, before the next investiture to which he will undergo -the third in a row- he has announced that he intends to present “a very ambitious program, for eight years, very realistic and very firm”, while “very shared”.
And he has been convinced that, unless “unforeseeable events” occur, the next ten years can be “extraordinary” for the autonomous community.
In this way, it foresees that Castilla-La Mancha will reach half a century of existence with “more companies, more employment, more health workers, more teachers and more workers in favor of social cohesion”.
To achieve this challenge, he has called for the contest of all the positions that have been elected this May 28, because “there is a long way to go.”
Likewise, he has assured that he has made an effort throughout his life to follow this path “as together as possible, with an inclusive spirit”.
The contribution of Castilla-La Mancha to Spain
On the other hand, he has asked himself what Castilla-La Mancha can do for Spain and has considered that the best thing he can do is “set an example, which is no small thing”.
“Give an example of not having a frontist dynamic, of moderation”, the Castilian-Manchego president has proposed, who has also added that the country as a whole can be contributed by having common sense positions, that is, “less frontism and more moderation”.
In this sense, he has ensured that he is not looking for enemies and has encouraged no one to feel like his enemy because they are from a different formation” from his.
“Only those who make an effort in the enmity of the speaker, and perhaps with a lot of effort, will achieve an enmity,” García-Page has maintained.
Likewise, he has considered that “it is time to read the political reality very well”, because although he has pointed out that “there may be noise, above all else are the interests of the whole of society”.
And he has placed the interests of Castilla-La Mancha as “the most important thing”, so that only the interests of the country are ahead, and the interests of his party are behind, which is not that he does not give importance to them, but he has considered relevant that citizens know that “they can feel protected in the face of adversity by their government.”
Defends stability as “the most profitable”
Likewise, he wanted certainty for the country and for the region, because “stability is the most profitable thing for a people”, but not only political stability but also with all the social agents, to “recover among all a high capacity for the agreements of State”.
On this day for the region, Castilla-La Mancha has awarded the Gold Medal to Ana Céspedes, global Director of Operations of IAVI (International AIDS Vaccine Initiative), which works to accelerate the development of vaccines, and to Rafael de Lorenzo, General Secretary of the ONCE Foundation, among other personalities from the region.
Of the winners, including the president of the EFE Agency, Gabriela Cañas, as Favorite Daughter of the region, García-Page has highlighted their ability to “overcome obstacles” and those who have shown that “advance can be made”, for what has valued that “call for hope”.
“Castilla-La Mancha has a very clear path ahead and on that path, I summon everyone, because on that path I am going to meet everyone”, García-Page concluded.
