The decree enters into force this same Tuesday, so today the Cortes will be dissolved until August 17, the day on which the resulting chambers will meet at 10:00 a.m. in constitutive sessions and the XV legislature will be constituted.
The plenary sessions will be held simultaneously in both chambers and the Congress will be initially chaired by the oldest elected deputy and assisted as secretaries by the two youngest. In these sessions, the Congress and the Senate will elect their presidents and the members of the Boards.
Pursuant to article 162 of the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime, 52 electoral constituencies are established, which correspond to each of the fifty Spanish provinces, in addition to the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.
The campaign starts on July 7 and ends on July 21
According to the royal decree, the electoral campaign will last fifteen days, beginning at zero hours on Friday, July 7, and ending at midnight on Friday, July 21.
On July 23, 350 deputies will be elected, with Madrid as the province with the largest number of seats (37), the same as in the previous 2019 call, followed by Barcelona (32), Valencia (16) -which will have one more than in the last general elections- and Seville and Alicante with 12 seats.
According to the royal decree, in each provincial constituency four senators will be elected, in the island constituencies three will be elected in Gran Canaria, Mallorca and Tenerife and one in Ibiza-Formentera, Menorca, Fuerteventura, Gomera, El Hierro, Lanzarote and La Palma.
The autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla each elect two senators.
