Zaluzhny and other Ukrainian generals were indicted in May by the Russian Investigative Committee for ordering to shoot civilians and civilian infrastructure in Donbas, under article 356 of the penal code.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces since July 2021, Zaluzhny, 49, has become a much-loved figure for the Ukrainian people
Last week Russian official media reported that the Ukrainian general had been killed in a missile attack in the Kherson region.
On Thursday Zaluzhny appeared in a video released by his country’s army to deny rumors coming from Moscow, which they accused of trying to demoralize Ukrainian troops.
“Bad news for Russian propagandists! Valery Fedorovych is doing well and continues to plan the liberation of Ukrainian territories from Russian invaders,” a Ukrainian army officer said.
Zaluzhny briefly addresses “all Ukrainians” and declares with the victory sign: “Together we will win”.
