Madrid (EFE) severe corrective that the socialists have suffered this 28M.
An unprecedented ordeal
The moment in which Sánchez has decided to call general elections is plagued by unprecedented circumstances: the first time that general elections have been called in the middle of the summer holidays -there have never been ones in July or August-; first time that a by-election causes such a rapid electoral advance; It is the first time that Spain is going to preside over the EU in the middle of the electoral process…
First effect: What are we talking about today?
The first effect of the electoral advance announcement has been immediate, since, in the political and journalistic debate, the broad victory of the PP in municipal and regional governments, the collapse of the socialists, of Podemos and the allies of Podemos, have been relegated to the background. Yolanda Díaz, the growth of Vox… Sánchez changes everyone’s pace, but with a very high-risk strategy.
Who will preside over the EU in September?
On July 1, Spain assumes the presidency of the European Union for the fifth time and will do so with a coalition government led by a socialist.
After the announcement of early elections, the European institutions will have to wait until at least August to find out who is leading the Council of the Union at the end of that semester, what color will that government be, what priorities will it have…
Is the PSOE prepared for general elections?
The first upset by Sánchez’s decision will be the socialist party itself which, after coming out badly from this Sunday’s electoral appointment, with some of its leaders out of the game and others blaming Sánchez directly responsible for their defeats, will have to start against the clock an electoral machine that does not seem exactly greased.
The preparation of the lists, always a complicated process within the parties, promises to be especially complicated on this occasion, with territories in which, given the results of 28M, it will not be easy for Ferraz’s orders to be accepted peacefully.
The PP will reach the general elections pending its agreements with Vox
As for the PP, its leaders take it for granted since the 28M results were known that Pedro Sánchez’s time in government has ended and they believe that the president is acting desperately in the face of the inevitable.
It is very probable that one of Sánchez’s ideas in playing with the times in this way was that the Spaniards, in the middle of the electoral campaign, have a very fresh image – and the left will strive to do so – the image of the local and regional leaders of the PP reaching agreements with Vox to be able to govern town halls and communities.
And what about Add?
If Sánchez has thrown an order at everyone, the first to accept it has been Yolanda Díaz, who has responded that she assumes the challenge of running for general elections with a project that has not been closed and with her weakened allies in regional and municipal governments.
The tensions with Podemos must be resolved in record time, the ten days that the electoral law gives to formalize the coalitions that will attend the elections, so the problem of “primaries yes, primaries no” can be resolved by electoral urgency itself.
