Pamplona (EFE) .
In the Foral Community, the socialist María Chivite achieved 11 parliamentarians this Sunday, the same as four years ago, which would allow her to repeat the current government formula with Geroa Bai and Contigo Navarra (this coalition includes two of its partners Podemos and Izquierda- Ezkerra), and the external support of EH Bildu.
As soon as the results were known, Chivite stated that his intention was to lead a “progressive” government, so he would try to achieve the same support as in 2019. Even so, the situation is different since now the sum with UPN, which has 15 parliamentarians , would give him an absolute majority to govern. In 2019, UPN and PP were together in the Navarra Suma coalition.
The intention is to form a government before Sanfermines
What is agreed in the Foral Community is going to influence at the national level, since the right has spent four years reproaching the PSOE for having agreed with EH Bildu in Navarra both for the investiture of Chivite and to approve the four budgets of the legislature.
Socialist sources tell EFE that the intention is to form a government before the Sanfermines begin on July 6 and with the majority expressed by Chivite this Sunday as soon as the results are known. This afternoon, after the regional Executive, the Socialists appear before the media.
It remains to be seen if from Ferraz they will give the go-ahead to repeat the Chivite government and agree to it before the general elections are held or they choose to wait until July 24 to make a move in Navarra.
Normally, although the negotiations can advance during the San Fermín festivities, the agreements to form a government are not reached until after the festivities.
UPN reaches out to form a government
The UPN candidate for the presidency of the Government, Javier Esparza, celebrated his victory by repeating as the most voted list and announced this Sunday that he “will act responsibly” by “reaching out to form a government led by UPN that distances itself from extremist and radical policies”.
He has also considered that “the PSN and PSOE agreements with EH Bildu are the most responsible for the PSOE debacle at the national level. Spain has punished the PSOE and its indecent agreements with EH Bildu. If after this national bump the PSN wants to continue hand in hand with Bildu, let him explain it to the rest of Spain ”, he has invited. This afternoon Esparza appears to analyze the call for general elections.
Esparza will therefore try to obtain the support of the PSN to be president and that agreement goes through the headquarters in Ferraz.
EH Bildu and Geroa bai call for progressive governments
The national coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has commented that the electoral call does not have to vary the times, or that at least EH Bildu will not change the perspective. “There are progressive majorities in Nafarroa and Iruña, in Navarra it is up to María Chivite and Joseba Asiron to lead it in Pamplona. It is not an exchange of letters, it is what the citizens have chosen ”, he said.
Geroa Bai’s candidate for the presidency of the Government of Navarra, Uxue Barkos, has called on PSN, EH Bildu and Contigo Navarra to reach agreements for the formation of progressive governments before the start of the electoral campaign for the general elections.
Barkos has appeared before the media to ask the PSN to rule on its commitment to progressive governments: “Any delay can only hinder the formation of governments.”
With you Navarra does not want the decision to depend on Madrid
Begoña Alfaro, Contigo Navarra’s candidate for the presidency of the Government, has indicated in statements to EFE that her commitment is the same in terms of forming a progressive Executive and has joined Barkos’s request for the PSN to speak out.
Alfaro considers that the decision taken in Navarra “cannot depend on Madrid” and has pointed out that the Navarrese spoke out this Sunday “asking for a government of progress.”
Town halls can’t wait
The town councils are constituted on June 17 and, on that day, the PSN must know if it is going to make Joseba Asiron, from EH Bildu, mayor, or whether it is going to allow Cristina Ibarrola, from UPN, to be mayor for being the list with the most votes.
Municipal politics cannot wait until the general elections and that will be known before the electoral campaign begins on July 7.
