Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) (EFE) It’s been a real madness.”
The list headed by Lola García has won the Cabildo de Fuerteventura with eight councillors, one more than those obtained in the 2019 electoral elections.
At 95% of the scrutiny, the Canary Coalition has eight directors, five from the PSOE, two less than in 2019; five the PP, which wins one; three Nueva Canarias, and two Municipal Assemblies of Fuerteventura.
García has acknowledged to the press that “the results have been satisfactory” and has thanked the citizens for their support.
“They have been four hard years and the only thing we have asked is to arrive and give stability to the public institutions and the Cabildo, where these four years have been a real madness”, he pointed out.
Regarding the red lines in the face of possible pacts, García has made it clear that he will not agree with the Municipal Assemblies of Fuerteventura (AMF), the party that in December 2022 dismissed the seven nationalist councilors.
“He has not maintained a loyal pact towards us or towards the citizenry, nor the institution itself,” he argued.
In 2019, Lola García became the first female president in the history of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. However, the nationalist herself barely lasted 17 days in office. A motion of no confidence led by the socialist Blas Acosta with the support of the NC-AMF alliance and Podemos ended 20 years of nationalist government.
In February 2021, Blas Aosta resigned and Sergio Lloret, from Fuerteventura Municipal Assemblies became president with the support of CC and PP. The government of three was blown up in December 2022 with the dismissal of the seven nationalist councilors and the departure, days later, of the four from the PP, which left Lloret with only one councilor from his governing formation.
Lola García has advanced that the first thing they will do when they arrive at the Cabildo is “to review with the legal officials to see what can be done with the agreements that have been made in the Governing Council” during the time that only two councilors have been governing .
In the 2019 elections, the Canary Islands Coalition was the force with the most votes with 9,162 votes and seven advisers, followed by the PSOE, led by Blas Acosta, also with seven advisers but with fewer votes: 8,420.
The PP was the third force with four advisers; the alliance Nueva Canarias (NC) and the Municipal Assemblies of Fuerteventura (AMF) three councilors, while Podemos obtained two councilor minutes.
The list for Parliament, for the insular constituency, is configured with three CC parliamentarians; two from the PSOE, which loses one compared to 2019; two from the PP, one more than in the past elections and one from Nueva Canarias.EFE
