Istanbul (EFE).- The electoral colleges of Turkey opened their doors at 08.00 (05.00) GMT this Sunday so that the nearly 61 million citizens who are summoned to the second round of the presidential elections can cast their ballots.
Voters will have to choose between the re-election of the current head of state and government, the Islamist Recep Tayyip Erdogan, or his rival, the opposition Social Democrat Kemal Kiliçdaroglu.
Nine hours to vote
The former starts as the clear favorite after having obtained 49.5% of the vote in the first round of the elections, held on the 14th, with a four-point advantage over the 44.9% obtained by Kiliçdaroglu.
The more than 192,000 polls will close at 5:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. GMT), after remaining open for nine hours.
News related to the elections cannot be disseminated until 18:00 local time (15:00 GMT), and the press is prohibited from reporting the results until 21:00 local time (18:00 GMT), although the Electoral Commission can lift this veto earlier.
