Barcelona (EFE) Spain, in front of a PP of which it assures that its only political project is to “repeal”.
Sánchez has closed the campaign in a massive rally attended by around 4,000 people, according to Ferraz sources, and in which the former president of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero; the leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa; and the party’s candidate for Barcelona City Council, Jaume Collboni.
“With you at the head of the Barcelona City Council, with Salva when he is president of the Generalitat and with us at the head of the Government of Spain, three in a row to make Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain countries and cities that advance in progress, cohesion, rights and coexistence,” he said.
At the beginning of his intervention, a small group of climate activists from the Extinction Rebellion group, opposed to projects such as the expansion of the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, who wore t-shirts with the slogan, were expelled from the venue
“PSC, Climate Suicide Party” and that they have interrupted Sánchez’s speech with beeps.
“Well, we are going to start the rally, otherwise…”, commented Sánchez, who has been supported by a large part of the public with shouts of “president, president”.
Taking advantage of his presence in Catalonia, Sánchez has commented that the “Spanish right” seeks to “return to the Spain of 2013” of “social conflict, precariousness, privatizations and inequality”, while “others in Catalonia yearn for the Catalonia of 2017 of the division, separation, confrontation between Catalans”.
“But between one and the other there is an immense majority of citizens who want to advance in employment, social justice, coexistence. I ask all of them to vote on May 28 so that we can advance in coexistence, in rights and in employment ”, he added.
Sánchez thanked Zapatero for having “achieved peace and an end to the violence” of ETA.
And he has criticized the campaign of “insult, disqualification and tension” of the PP, which he has accused of having no other political project than “repealing”.
“When they are in government, (they engage in) cutting and when they are in opposition, they threaten to repeal. Two verbs for the same purpose, disassemble (…). Going back to the past is not a political project: we ask for the vote to move forward for what matters ”, she underlined.
In addition, Sánchez has insisted on the importance of voting two days before the elections and just one day before the day of reflection, since he has assured that thanks to the vote in Spain there is a government that has approved measures such as the rise of the minimum interprofessional salary or the revaluation of pensions.
“We are aware of defending what interests the majority and the right is always aware that the majority will not vote. I ask you why. On many occasions it is because they play the worse the better”, Sánchez has maintained, who has stressed that Spain “finishes social democratic policies infinitely better than neoliberal ones”.
“The future always gives reason to progress and on May 28 we have to fill the ballot boxes for the future by voting for the PSOE. So to vote, to win and Jaume to govern ”, he concluded.
