Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The coach of UD Las Palmas, Francisco Javier García Pimienta, has expressed his “joy, happiness and pride” after achieving promotion to the First Division this Saturday with the yellow team, after drawing in home with Deportivo Alavés (0-0).
“We were obliged to defend a shield and make people feel proud, we have made a lot of people happy and that is the most important thing,” he declared at the press conference after the game played at the Gran Canaria stadium.
The Catalan coach has admitted that it was not “the best game” for the team from Gran Canaria, but against “a great team” like Alavés, “it was time to compete, because we knew they were going to have their options, and we withdrew when it was time, but we We have also had chances and the game would have changed if we had taken the lead”.
García Pimienta recalled that he is going to “enjoy a lot” the promotion because he has been playing in the play-off for three years “and he was not capable of promotion, and now we have done it directly. I am going to celebrate it in style, but without losing my temper, ”he joked.
“During the game you have to remain calm, but when the referee whistled the end, all joy overflowed, and you are very happy for everyone, and also for the family, who have been suffering in silence,” he added.
Regarding his future, the Barcelona coach has not yet wanted to confirm his renewal for next season in the highest category of Spanish football. “The club wants me to continue, and now they just need to reach an agreement with my agents,” he pointed out. EFE
