Málaga, (EFE).- The interactive visual novel “An accidental hacker. Harry’s adventures in the world of cybersecurity” seeks training in this area and acquire good habits, through fun and play, so as not to be victims of cybercriminals.
This application, which will be published in June in Apple and Android stores, is fully developed by the company Novelingo, based in the National Digital Content Center of Malaga, the head of Content for this firm, José Luis, has informed EFE. Garcia.
Novelingo is an emerging company that emerged from the commitment of its general director, Daniel Cañete Mestanza, to training in mobility and with different strategies.
His first release was an interactive visual novel dedicated to the artist Maruja Mallo. Which was financed by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in 2022. And with which he wanted to demonstrate the validity of his commitment to an unprecedented format in Spain.
In addition, with this project, Novelingo received the prize in the mobile category in the fourth edition of the Indie Games video game contest promoted by the National Pole of Digital Content. And a special mention in the section dedicated to Art and Technology in the last edition of Culture & Museums International Tech Forum.
Cybersecurity as a topic
In his new interactive novel, the protagonist is Harry, who is not the best worker in his company. But thanks to his natural talent, he is one of the candidates with the most options to be the next director of Cybersecurity.
The choice of cybersecurity as the theme for the second Novelingo game “is not accidental.” Since it is a field “in which training is essential and innovation is welcome”, García points out. That he is also the scriptwriter of the company’s two interactive novels.
Although his novels combine fun with education, this second aspect is essential. Since “what the game hides is a course in cybersecurity”, according to the person in charge of Contents.
“When you finish playing you are familiar with concepts such as ‘phishing’, ‘malware’ or social engineering. And with many tips to have good habits to prevent being victims of cybercrime”, adds García.
“Under the premise that our second great launch should be something different from Maruja Mallo, I proposed a slightly more naughty graphic adventure, in which the protagonist is a disaster. And the player must try to save him from the computer troubles in which he will be involved, ”explains the screenwriter.
Professionals from Malaga
For his part, the general director of Novelingo points out that, after the experience with Maruja Mallo, this time they wanted to “do something different” and took the risk of financing this video game “without aid or contracts with any other company.”
As in the previous interactive novel, all the creative and programming development has been completed in Malaga with professionals from this city.
“The stories are ours, and the music, illustrations and programming are also the result of the city’s creative ecosystem,” highlights Cañete, who adds that they believe “in the capacity of Malaga”, where “a very favorable environment has been created for the innovation and creative collaboration.
