Madrid (EFE).- Last March, 36,182 mortgages were signed in Spain for the purchase of homes, 15.7% less than in the same month of 2022, but 0.8% more than the previous month, according to the data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The fixed interest rate continued to outperform the variable in the new mortgage production and was the option chosen in 63.9% of cases, compared to 36.1% for the variable rate, with an average rate of 3.15% for fixed loans and 2.72% for variable ones.
The average amount of mortgages on homes was 142,663 euros, 1.5% lower than a year earlier, while the capital lent by entities for this purpose stood at 5,161.9 million euros, 17% less also compared year-on-year.
