Rome, (EFE).- Pope Francis said that he wants to travel to his native country, Argentina, next year, although he qualified that he hopes to be able to do so, during the closing of the World Congress of “Eco-educational Cities” in Rome.
“My idea is to travel next year. We will see if it is possible, ”he said briefly when asked by the presenter of the event organized by Scholas Occurrentes in collaboration with the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), in order for the councilors of different cities to promote sustainable development.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his pontificate, on March 13, Francisco indicated to various media outlets in his country that he would like to go to Argentina in 2024, but without giving further details.
Last Sunday some Argentine media published that the Vatican was preparing the pontiff’s trip to his country for the first months of the year, foreseeably next April, and that in addition to Argentina he was going to visit Uruguay and southern Brazil.
World Youth Day
Vatican sources then indicated that it was still early to talk about this possible trip, since those for 2023 had not yet been announced and a day later, the Vatican revealed that Francis will travel to Lisbon from August 2 to 6 to participate in World Day of Youth (WYD) and will include a visit to the Marian sanctuary of Fatima, where it was already in May 2017.
At the moment, no further details have been given about the trip to Portugal, which will be the third this year confirmed by the Vatican after Hungary and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan, although the pope also stated that he plans to travel. to Mongolia and Marseille (France).
Francisco participates today in the closing of the World Congress of “Eco-educational Cities” organized by Scholas Occurrentes, an act during which he will hold a video conference with young people from Argentina, the United States, Mexico and the Colombian Amazon and a group of elderly and young people from a residence in Spain.
