Mexico City (EFE).- The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, asked this Thursday the Hispanic community not to vote for the Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who yesterday launched his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States, consider that it contemplates policies that “do not respect” migrants.
“I hope the Hispanics of Florida wake up and don’t give him a vote,” said the Mexican president during his morning press conference.
The president asked not to vote “for those who persecute migrants, for those who do not respect migrants, because the migrant, as it is said in the Bible, deserves respect,” said López Obrador.
He also criticized DeSantis’s attitude by asserting that the Republicans in the United States “are very hypocritical” since they surely have immigrants working with them.
He also condemned the US politician’s proposal to close the border between the two countries to prevent drugs from entering the US.
“(DeSantis) also brought out the same thing, the fentanyl thing, thinking that with that he is going to get votes. Let him start to see, because in one of those fentanyl is arriving through Florida and we have to be informing people so that they do not offend Mexico, that they learn to respect us, ”he settled.
DeSantis, fully to face Trump
On Wednesday, DeSantis officially announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 2024 US presidential election and vowed to lead the country to a “great comeback” should he win the White House.
In a chat on Twitter, accompanied by Elon Musk, owner of the social network, the Republican said that he will combat the fentanyl epidemic and drug cartels by closing the southern border with Mexico.
In addition, he stressed that it was not possible for the passage of illegal migrants to the United States to continue.
