Madrid (EFE).- Vehicle production in Spain grew by 3.2% in April compared to the same period of the previous year, to 173,702 units, which represents a slowdown in the rate registered in the first months of the year due to the lack of supply of components in national factories.
According to the data published this Wednesday by the association of manufacturers Anfac, production accumulates in the first four months of the year a growth of 15.7%, with a total of 831,984 vehicles manufactured, although this figure is still 15.2%. below 2019 levels, before the pandemic.
Despite the fact that vehicle production maintains the positive trend with which it began the year, Anfac points out that the factories continue to be affected by the intermittent rhythm in the supply of certain components.
“This last month, growth has been lower than in previous months. Despite the improvement registered, the sector is still affected by factors such as the rate of supply of materials or problems in transport logistics that limit the capacity of our centers”, explained its general manager, José López-Tafall.

By type of vehicle, 133,635 passenger cars and SUVs were manufactured in April, 5.6% less than in the same month of 2022, although so far this year a growth of 10.4% has been recorded, with 645,939 units.
For its part, the production of commercial and industrial vehicles increased by 49.7% in the last month compared to April 2022 and reached 40,067 units, while in the first four-month period it accumulates a growth of 38.9%, up to 186,045. vehicles.
Exports, at a better pace
In April, the Spanish factories exported 165,334 vehicles, which represents an increase of 10.9% compared to the same month of the previous year, while in the first quarter the growth is 21.7%, with 759,715 units exported.
In the last month, exports have grown at a faster rate than production, a situation that could be due to the volumes of vehicles that are waiting for export due to both the limitations in the reception of components and the problems in the vehicle transportation.
Europe remained the main destination for Spanish exports in April, concentrating 89.4% of vehicle shipments, somewhat below the figure registered a year ago.

By country, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey and the United Kingdom were the first five countries to which exported vehicles manufactured in Spain were directed.
Data by energy sources
During the last month, the production of zero and low emission vehicles – electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, conventional hybrids, natural gas and LPG – has increased by 38.5% compared to the same period in 2022, with 32,000 units.
This means concentrating a production quota of 18.4%, so that one in five vehicles that were manufactured in Spain in April were of this type.
For its part, the manufacturing share of electrified vehicles (BEV pure electrics and PHEV plug-in hybrids) has reached 12.9% of total production.
Specifically, 22,301 electrified vehicles were manufactured in April, which represents a slight increase of only 1.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, of which 16,598 units were passenger cars, 18.7% less than a year ago. anus.
