New York, May 23 (EFE).- Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced on Tuesday Windows Copilot, an artificial intelligence (AI) “personal assistant” for Windows 11.
Nadella noted in his keynote address at the Microsoft Build developer conference in Seattle, Washington, that this tool will increase user productivity and that Windows Copilot will be accessible from a sidebar.
This tool can summarize, rewrite or explain the content that the user is viewing in an application or web, as well as answer questions.
“Once open, the Windows Copilot sidebar stays anchored across all your apps, programs and windows, always available to act as a personal assistant,” Panos Panay, director of Windows and devices at Microsoft, explained in a statement released today. .
Windows Copilot
For his part, Kevin Scott, CTO and Executive Vice President of Technology, Research and AI, explained at the event that a “copilot is an application that uses modern AI that has a conversational interface that helps the user with cognitive tasks.”
This new tool won’t directly replace the search bar on the Windows 11 taskbar, but the copilot can be asked to make changes to PC settings, like lowering the screen brightness, for example.
Also, because Windows Copilot uses the same technology as Microsoft’s AI chatbot, Bing, or OpenIA’s GPT-4 or Dall-e 2, it can be asked all kinds of questions and asked to create images using text.
The age of artificial intelligence
Nadella stressed that we are at the time of the “AI era” and that at this conference, which will last until Wednesday, Microsoft will announce 50 new products.
Among other announcements, he highlighted that its web search engine, Bing, is incorporated into ChatGPT, OpenAI’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, for users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, its paid version and that “soon” it will be enabled for all ChatGPT users.
In addition, Microsoft 365 Copilot now supports plug-ins or extensions such as: Teams messaging extensions, Power Platform connectors, and tools that use ChatGPT technology.
Finally, Nadella stressed that the purpose of technology and, therefore, of AI, is “to achieve growth in the Human Development Index.”
“We want life expectancy to increase, we want education, prosperity and the standard of living to rise everywhere. That’s why we build, that’s why we innovate. That is why the technology exists,” he explained.
