As explained to EFE by the director of the Extremadura Red Cross Emergency Unit, Víctor Domínguez, the return to the towns of these neighbors, who had been evicted since early Friday morning as a result of the fire in Las Hurdes and Sierra de Gata, started last night.
Thus, at first the Adolfo Suárez de Moraleja sports hall was evicted, where around a hundred people remained.
“Most of these people returned home in private vehicles, except for a small group of 15 people who used a bus that had been chartered for this purpose,” he pointed out.

Domínguez has added that after last night’s operation, this morning another group of neighbors and dependent elderly people, all from Sierra de Gata, who were staying at the Moraleja Rural Environment Training Center, is moving in adapted vehicles.
“As the decision to allow the return to the villages was made around 9:00 p.m. this Saturday, we have preferred to leave the transfer of these people with special needs until today,” he stressed.
In the same way, the person in charge of the Red Cross has advanced that for this afternoon the return in ambulances and adapted vehicles of the 14 people who were also evacuated and who were staying in residences for the elderly is scheduled.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Population and Territory has publicly thanked the Extremadura Red Cross for its “involvement in emergencies, and for caring as they deserve to all the people who have worked and continue to work on the Pinofranqueado fire.
