Murcia, May 20 (EFE) María Marín, to leave the set to share television time, as established by the Electoral Board, with her counterpart from Más Región-Equo, Helena Vidal.
In a resolution, which was appealed by the purple party before the Central Electoral Board, and which has not yet been resolved, it was ordered that a single representative of Podemos-Izquierda Unida-Alianza Verde appear in the first part of the debate, and in the second second, that of Más Región-Verdes-Equo, since the fact that both were present “would mean that the coalition with the least votes in May 2019 would have two representatives”, when the rest of the parties only had one.
The cancellation occurred in the middle of the third block, related to social policy, when the Podemos candidate had to leave the set for the head of the Más Región list to take her place and she has refused to do so.
After affirming before the cameras that she did not intend to leave the program and that she was “delighted to debate with Helena Vidal”, and requested on several occasions by the presenters, the debate was momentarily interrupted to try to get her to give up her attitude and, after half an hour , its cancellation has been decided due to the obligation to comply with the provisions of the Provincial Electoral Board.
Upon leaving the debate, organized by the College of Journalists of Murcia and held at the regional television facilities, the regional president and candidate for re-election for the PP, Fernando López Miras, has lamented the Podemos strategy and has stressed that this community “needs solvency, seriousness and good governance, and not circuses or extremism.”
When asked if he would be willing to resume the debate at another time, López Miras has underlined his willingness to debate, although he has recognized the difficulty in balancing the agendas of all the candidates a scant week before the appointment with the polls.
The general secretary of the Murcian PSOE and head of the list, José Vélez, has affirmed: “I am very clear, the rules must be respected”, he has added that he respects the decision of the Electoral Board “but not” he shares it, and has summoned to be held again before 28M.
His Ciudadanos counterpart, María José Ros, has considered María Marín’s “show” “embarrassing” and has said that he “has done a favor” to López Miras, “who did not want to debate”, while the leader of Vox in the community and candidate for president, José Ángel Antelo, has opined: “they seem to me to be very serious events, which do not respect democracy, do not respect the decision of the Electoral Board, and serve to send a very clear message to the citizenry, and It is that these people must be thrown out of all the institutions”.
María Marín has left the facilities of the regional public television without making statements to the journalists who were taking part in the debate on behalf of Murcia Plaza, the newspaper La Opinión, Cadena SER, the newspaper La Verdad de Murcia and Agencia EFE.
