After renouncing to run again in the elections of the highest municipal official in the last eight years, José Parra, and his party, Now Decide, the range of electoral acronyms, with up to seven parties, has opened up like never before in this municipality, one of those with a higher proportion of candidates in relation to the number of voters.
In fact, doing the math, these seven parties in contention mean that there is a different political option for every 18 residents, although then among them there is everything, from lists with “paratroopers” who are not from the town to others headed by people who, despite to have a relationship with the municipality, they do not reside in it.
There are even three candidacies, those of Prepal, Futuro and Zamora Sí, in which there is only one candidate to enter the municipal Corporation, in the first two cases residents of the town who have not found more names to swell their list and in the third one of the foreigners
Of course, both residents and candidates consulted by EFE agree to applaud the diversity that these seven parties generate, with different political options to vote for, and then it will be the polls that on May 28 purge and decide the support that each receives. which.
José Parra, as the highest municipal official, warns applicants for the position that it can cause them many more headaches than satisfaction, as has happened to him in the second of his two terms due to the “jam” of projects upon reaching the filter of the municipal secretary-controller.
He also notes that the position requires a lot of work, which he has been able to put in thanks to his retirement.
Seven parties, but the same vote can go to four different candidates
But if the range of options were not enough, the electoral peculiarity in municipalities with less than 250 inhabitants widens the political gibberish, since they vote on open lists, with all the candidacies on the same ballot in which each voter can put the X in up to four candidates, without having to be from the same party.
One of the residents not linked to any of the lists, Álvaro García, predicts that this variety of candidacies, with seven parties, can also translate into a very open municipal corporation and without absolute majorities.
García sees the situation as “complicated” because there is a chance that two of the parties will obtain two councilors and in the end it will be a third formation that with only one mayor of the five has the power to decide who is the mayor, being the “key of the municipal government.
