Ciudad Real (EFE) .
Sources from the 112 emergency service have informed EFE that at around 1:54 p.m. a call was received warning that on Guarnicioneros street, in the Sepes de Daimiel industrial estate, two workers from a wastewater company, that they were in a chest about two meters deep, showed no signs of life.
Agents of the Local Police, the Civil Guard and Daimiel firefighters have traveled to the scene of the event, who have rescued the lifeless bodies from inside the chest.
An emergency doctor, an ambulance and an UVI have also been displaced, although the health services have only been able to certify the death of these two people.
Institutional and political acts suspended in Daimiel
On the other hand, municipal sources have informed EFE that the Daimiel City Council has decided to suspend all its institutional acts and municipal calls for this Thursday and this Friday due to the death of these two people.
The parties that are competing in the elections (PP, PSOE, IU, Vox and UCIN) have also suspended all their planned events.
The Labor Inspectorate opens an investigation
For its part, UGT Castilla-La Mancha has reported that the Labor and Social Security Inspection (ITSS) has opened an investigation to try to clarify the causes that have led to the death of these two workers.
In a press release, the Secretary of Organization and Occupational Health of UGT Castilla-La Mancha, Javier Flores, regretted that, “although this week there was talk that the province had registered a decrease in occupational accidents of 16% In the first months of 2023 -being the province with the greatest decrease-, this double work accident once again raises the incidence rate of accidents in Ciudad Real”.
Javier Flores, who explained that the Labor Inspectorate has appeared to investigate these events, has demanded that this autonomous body be provided with more human and material resources to prevent events like these from happening again in companies in the region.
The union, which has expressed its regret over the death of these two workers, has made the legal services of UGT Ciudad Real available to the families to offer them “all the support and advice they need,” it concluded.
